Kata & Timoteo

Connection #14

Kata & Timoteo

14. Kata & Timoteo

Guatemala, Uspantan, Kata (32) & Timoteo (55) (religion: none)
Gift received: September 03, 2006

Timoteo and Kata have four children, two girls (3 and 5), and two boys (10 and 12). They live on a hill in Uspantan, having a house with two rooms, a separate kitchen house, and no toilet. Their living standard is low. Timoteo has to work 5 days a week in Sacapulas, thus only comes home during the weekends. He and his wife often sit on the sewing machine, making their own traditional clothes. His two little girls and his wife wear every day traditional dresses.

The card was the only thing Timoteo could give as a gift. Its meaning is to always remember that there are no differences between us humans, no matter where we come from, who we are, or what our social status is. We are all the same, we are "humanos" (humans).

How we met Kata & Timoteo

Timoteo was very touched when receiving the gift. He had to unpack it first, as it was prepared nicely like a birthday present. After he unpacked the gift his children gathered around him, carrying it through their whole house. The whole family was very content about the goodness an unknown person shows towards them.
