6. Carlos
Mexico, Merida, 24 years old (religion: atheist)
Gift received: January 29, 2006
Carlos is studying Social Anthropology in Merida. Besides studying he works 6 days a week in a café called El Hoyo. He travelled a lot within Mexico and has a great knowledge about the places, people and the history of even very small tribes. He is also concerned about all political issues in his country. Carlos loves to receive foreigners to stay with him and to learn about all those interesting places out in the world. One of his big dreams is to travel around Europe ;)
Gift: Book "Southern Mail" by A. de Saint-Exupéry
Gift given: February 01, 2006
Books are a great source of human knowledge. Carlos himself gained a lot of knowledge out of books, especially about travelling. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry loved traveling and gave in his book many information about his travel experiences. With giving this book Carlos wants to share his knowledge about and his passion for travelling. Additionally, he gave one proverb by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry: "El que le busca sentido a la vida le encuentra sentido a la muerte." ["The one searching the sense of life will find sense of death."]
How we met Carlos
Carlos already knew about our "Connect the World" idea, thus when the procedure of giving the present was taking place, without explaining much he had a bright smile on his face and said: "I was all the time thinking of buying a stone in a shape of a frog to put it in my new apartment because in many religions the frog is a symbol of good luck." But now he has received the frog from us.
