Last weekend Argentina took advantage of the long weekend. For this reason the hitch-hikers community of Buenos Aires province decided to invite everybody to the regional meeting. The event took place in a camping located about 500 km south from Buenos Aires and 15 km from the nearest village La Dulce (“sweet”).<\/p>\n

There were about 30 participants mainly from Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata cities (the national hitch-hiker ga<\/p>\n

The first day our gathering was visited by 2 bicyclists from Mar del Plata who 2 days previously had started their no-time-limits journey towards the most Southern town of the country – Ushuaia. Among all the travelers were 3 foreigners: us two and Erika from Estonia, who is working as a volunteer in Argentina through the European Volunteer Service organization. The oldest person in the meeting was 48 years old Carlos, who started to travel by hitch-hiking 3 years ago after he got to know the community of Argentinean hitch-hikers online and in person.<\/p>\n

The first travelers came to La Dulce camping Friday night, but most of the people arrived during Saturday and few more on Sunday. Almost everybody was hitch-hiking, except one with his own motorcycle, and a young family with a boy who came with the car.<\/p>\n

Somehow organizers managed top bring two big pots to the meeting, so everyday there was a common food (mainly non-vegetarian). There was a clear leader among the cooks – Magi. Seemed that if not her – everybody would have spent the weekend hungry \ud83d\ude42 Meanwhile we were cooking independently using our multi-fuel stove, as we prefer a bit more balanced meals…<\/p>\n

One evening around the fireplace everybody was sharing their stories about how did they get into the Autostop community. Listening to the people’s experiences seemed that a lot of them got involved into Autostop Argentina movement after searching Internet for the information related to traveling. The advantage of AutostopArgentina.com.ar<\/a> website is that it contains a lot of useful tips about different rural areas of Argentina and other countries. In the forums of this website travelers also organize different events related to hitch-hiking.<\/p>\n

We are greatful to the Argentinean hitch-hikers for the interesting long-weekend in La Dulce camping. At the same time it makes us feel pity that in the nearest future we will not be able to participate in those wonderful community events, as in 10 days we will be flying to Europe…<\/p>\n\n\n\n
